Anxiety and doubt are inherent in entrepreneurship.
When we’re in it, being cooked by the anxiety and doubt, it feels like we’re the only one who feels this way. We must be doing something wrong. We think “Maybe it’s just me, I’m not cut out for this”.
But the reality is every entrepreneur experiences anxiety and doubt. It’s just rarely spoken about in articles or podcast interviews.
There are two primary paths to choose from with this reality -- we can white knuckle it through or accept it and step into it.
The former could lead to financial success but will almost certainly lead to a personal breakdown.
The latter could lead to financial success but will almost certainly lead to personal growth.
Few things in life provide as much opportunity for personal growth as entrepreneurship. It exposes our weaknesses and shortcomings, which allows us to accept them and work on them.
The internal, invisible work we do as entrepreneurs is more important than the external results we produce.
Doing the invisible work doesn’t guarantee our business will be financially successful, but it will improve our lives and help us grow as individuals.
It’s a matter of choosing how we define success for ourselves. Is it defined by the visible or the invisible work?
