Fear is the only thing standing in the way of selling our business and trying something new.

My wife and I have spent the last couple of years talking about what we want to do when we grow up. We’ve owned Ambler together for 15 years. It’s been a great experience and we’ve been able to create the life that we want because of it.

But there’s been this nagging feeling in our minds lately. Is this what we want to be doing five years from now?

There is a familiar rhythm to our weeks, months and years in our current roles. There are wonderful advantages to this rhythm, but the familiarity can breed complacency. The nagging feeling is telling us that we need to go try something new.

The comfortable thing to do would be to stick with what we have. It provides us with a great life, it’s predictable and we have tons of flexibility. But looking closely at it, we know that there are other opportunities we want to explore.

Fear is the only thing standing in our way of making the change and that’s how we know it’s time to make a change.

We’ve done the pros & cons lists. We’ve talked it over with coaches, mentors, therapists and friends. The only thing keeping us in this role is fear of the unknown. Fear of discomfort. Fear of failure.

These fears can seem big and real and keep us frozen in place. But we realize these are the same fears we felt when we considered buying Ambler.

Oh right, we’ve been here before. There’s a decision to make and we think there could be some amazing things on the other side of it but fear is standing in the way.

Experience has taught us that if fear is the only thing standing in the way then it’s time to move towards it.

So we’ve decided to sell Ambler and try something new.

We’re looking for the right buyer to build upon Ambler’s 30 year history. If you know a good candidate, please send them our way.

As for what’s next for us, I suppose we embrace the fear of the unknown and see what we find on the other side of it.
